Away on a trip to the east cost and my experiences below, did not take the laptop to update daily.
Day 0: 10/14-10/17 - Kavitha started packing the bags and I started looking for some flights. Then was ripped off 250 bucks from the stupid site and completed the bookings. We had to pick few things and finally we were ready for the trip.
Day 1: 10/18/05 - Started off with the family and mother in the Southwest flight to Buffalo for Niagara Falls eventless flight. Took the rental car a sienna and went to see the Niagara on the American side. It was late in the evening and went and saw the glimpse of the falls with the lighting from the Canadian side. But only the small portion we were able to see from this side. Then we took dinner from an indian restaurent and went to the Holiday Inn for the night's stay.
Day 2: 10/19/05 - Started off early and got the Mck Cakes and set off to the Canadian side for the sight seeing. The immigration officer stamped mother's passport and we went to see the Niagara falls. We parked the car and immediately it started pouring for about 10-15 minutes and then it stopped but we were drenched and the kids started crying. Then we took the pictures and little bit of camcoder in the falls and walked along enjoying the beautiful sights. It is breathtaking to such a natural wonder and we were awe struck. Kavitha was really happy. Then we walked to the Skylon Tower and took the view from the top and it was good. After that we took lunch and started back to the hotel. But we were stopped by the us officers because of the radio isotope detection and then Kavitha went for the check and got cleared. We thought we would go to the aquarium but it was closed and Kavitha drove the car back to the hotel and we ordered pizza for dinner and we slept.
Day 3: 10/20/05 - Caught the Continental flight to Newark Intl airport after dropping the rental car. The flight was eventless and we reached newark. We stored three suitcases in the storage and went to see New York. We took an express bus which stopped in Penn Station and we caught the Red bus NY Sight seeing and saw only one tour of Lower Manhatten and we thought we could do the other tours next day but we could not. We took the express bus back and took the suitcase and went in the bus to the Penn Station a night mare of journey. Then we took the NJ transit to New Brunswick and reached Dev's house in a taxi after lot of muddling. We thought we will not stay at his home next day but we ended up and really enjoyed staying with them.
Day 4: 10/21/05 - Started off late with the breakfast at dev's house and took the taxi to the wrong station and took another taxi to the New Brunswick and took the NJ transit which was delayed for an hour due to switching and reached New York and took the subway to the South ferry and reached there. Once there, because of plain stupidity on my part took the Staten Island ferry instead of the ferries to the Statue of liberty and when we got back it was closed and that ended our New york tour. But highlight of the day was the dinner in the punjabi restaurent and met this guy who also dropped us back to Dev's house.
Day 5: 10/22/05 - Dev dropped us off at the airport and there were some tense moments when we thought we could not make it to the flight but we made it. Unfortunately it was held up for an hour because of an instrument failure. It was fixed and we reached DC and took the rental car Buick Rendevouz and off we went to see the monuments. We saw the capitol and the monument, then we parked the car to see the monument and went all the way down and saw the white house and it started raining and made a big mess. We could not forget the kind act made by the stranger in providing the big umbrella which saved the children from getting wet. After watching them we tried to get back to the Double tree hotel that we booked but lost and kept circling the place many times and could not find the hotel. But called the wrong Double tree and went to Tysons corner and could not reach the double tree but ended up staying in the Mariott and it was really a good experience. Ordered Pizza for the night and slept peacefully.
Day 6: 10/23/05 - Visited the National museum of Natural history and Capitol building and Nation Museum of air and space. We watched show in the planetarium romantially, an experience I could never forget. Then we bought some toys for the little one and we returned to the hotel and got ready for the next day return.
Day 7: 10/24/05 - We got up at around 3 am and vacated the room at around 3:30 AM and dropped off the car at Reagan national airport and took the shuttle to the airport. We got the boarding passes and were to stand for 45 minutes in the security checkpoint and then boarded the plane for Housten where we had to change the planes for Phoenix and we had only 35 minutes to catch the next flight in a different terminal. We literally ran and made it to the flight. Mother was limping and finally reached the destination when Ramesh picked us up. This was our trip to the east coast and eventhough it was a mixed experience, I know that this one might be the last trip for my mother and I owe her this trip.
